Alumni Weekend 2023 Deemed a Success

Oct 28, 2022

After two years without Alumni Weekend, it feels so good to be together at last!

After two years without Alumni Weekend due to COVID-19, WWVA staff and alumni alike were glad to see the return of the event. The weekend started on October 14 with a mixer before the current ASB put on a vespers, giving alumni a glimpse into how WWVA student worship at this point in time.

On Sabbath, people rushed through WWVA's double doors to register and say their hellos. Many shaking hands and hugging old friends could be seen, actions that were happily welcomed! The Church program was a success with musical numbers from each group on campus, songs from the WWVA Praise Band, and worship thoughts from three outstanding alumni—Dennis Meidinger, Class of 1962; Tyler Anderson, Class of 1992; and Brooklyn Armesto-Larson, Class of 2012. After church, alumni and friends enjoyed a delicious meal of haystacks and a potluck desert. At 5:00 p.m., the classes of 1965 and prior met for a meal in the multi-purpose room for food and fellowship. The night ended with a silent auction benefiting the WWVA Auditorium Remodel Project, titled Embrace Our Space, and alumni volleyball and basketball games.

On Sunday, WWVA held their first Golf Tournament in years, at Veterans Memorial Golf Course, towards the Embrace Our Space fundraiser. With 64 players, amazing fall weather, great prizes and a wonderful meal from Taqueria Yungapetti, the event was a great way to kick of this long-term fundraiser. Not only was the event fun, but it was also lucrative—raising $20,000 and counting.

Thank you to all who attended! WWVA is already looking forward to next year's Alumni Weekend. Mark your calendars for October 13-15, 2023! We hope to see you there!
